One of my Earliest Collaborators at RIT
Dick Norman
Dick Norman was a technical associate in the School of Photographic Arts & Sciences when I started
at RIT in 1986. As an engineer and master craftsman,
Dick was incredibly helpful in building devices for my earliest work in
high magnification photography. He built a focused transillumination system
for photographing microscope slides, a scanning photomacrography system as well as
countless other devices to solve specific problems found in this realm
of picture making. Dick's skills and knowledge were exhaustive, but
his interests did not stop there. His home brew of "Panther"
is still talked about amongst those that new him. This portrait in his workshop was taken in 1988
by Ronell Coco for an environmental portrait assignment in my advanced biomed photo class. Dick's contributions to my advancement are still integrated into my lab at RIT.
